Game overview: Quake II

A science-fiction first-person shooter that pits humanity against the Strogg in a campaign of combat and exploration.
Gameplay tips
Quake II's Strogg bases are environmental puzzles wrapped around combat. Learn the map grammar: switches open routes, secret passages skip fights, and power supplies armor you for the next arena. Progress save-before-new-weapon is the classic rhythm.
Combat favors deliberate weapon switching: shotgun forclose crowds, railgun (once found) for distance, hyperblaster for sustained pressure. Ammo types are distinct per weapon, so hoarding the wrong surplus starves the right fight.
The Strogg install enemies reward circle-strafing around pillars, and the bosses reward learning spawn-room layouts before engaging. When health runs low mid-level, retreat through cleared rooms rather than pushing: the game respawns nothing, so retreat is always safe retreat.
