Quake III is movement first, aim second. Strafe-jump by holding forward, jumping, and alternating A/D while turning smoothly with the mouse; each chain adds speed, and speed wins fights before shots are fired. Learn item timing even loosely: armor and megahealth spawn on schedules, and controlling them is how one player beats five.

Rocket launcher is geometry: fire at feet on flat ground, at walls when cornering, and predict jumps with air shots only when confident. Railgun punishes stillness in both directions. Swap weapons instead of reloading habits from other shooters.

Against better players, stop dueling and start positioning. Take fights near your items and away from theirs. The browser ports keep the movement faithfully enough that old habits transfer, which is exactly why it is worth learning properly.
