Tekken 5 begins paying you back the moment you stop pressing buttons during pressure. Learn one character's ten-frame punish and a safe mid launcher; those two tools alone carry you through arcade runs. Block punish, do not guess punish.
Movement is the hidden depth: backdash cancels pressure, sidestep avoids linear attacks, and crouch-blocking ducks highs. Practice punishing a jab with a backdash-cancelled launcher until it feels rude, because that is the level the AI difficulty curves toward.
Read the rank system as a lesson plan: each loss tells you which string you failed to block or which throw you failed to break. Between sessions, watch a single combo video for your character and drill one route in practice mode rather than five half-learned ones.
