QuakeWorld is the ancestor of every fast arena shooter, and its browser build preserves the speed. Rocket jumps are traversal, not tricks: aim at your feet, jump and fire together, and accept the self-damage as a toll. Practice until ascending a shelf costs two seconds, not a life.

The weapon ladder matters: shotgun early, nailgun or grenades mid, rocket launcher and lightning gun once the map opens. Learn armor routes as strictly as weapon routes, because a controlled fight is won by whoever wears 100 armor into it.

In deathmatch, move between items, not toward enemies. Standing still is dying slowly. When hurt, disengage through height changes; pursuers lose you at stairs. The old maps hide escape routes on every wall, and learning two per map changes your survival rate immediately.
